CLASSIC favourites stirred emotions at a summer concert.

Opus 5 won rapturous applause for their sellout performance at Knutsford’s 17th century Brook Street Chapel.

Maurice Pitcher, concert organiser, said: “There was a very enthusiastic response from the audience with the singers smashing it out of the park.

“They featured a lovely range of popular opera and musicals including Nessun Dorma and O Mio Babbino Caro, with snippets from La Boheme, Les Miserables and Showboat.

“Wendy Nugent provided an electrifying performance on piano of Etude de Concert which generated rapturous applause.”

Gifted Japanese organist Aya Pitcher brought memories of the Coronation back to life with a performance of Zadok the Priest on the pipe organ.

“Her playing of Adagio for Strings left no dry eye in the house,” said Maurice.

“This piece was played at the Last Night of the Proms in the wake of September 11.

“American conductor Leonard Slatkin from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, said ‘the way it ends gives you a glimmer of hope, not sadness’.

“This mixture of music has worked very well for the audience and we will develop another concert for 2024.”
