WORK on a village pond in Appleton to improve drainage in the area has finished.

A Pewterspear Green Trust spokesperson said the work on the village pond, next to Pewterspear Green Road, was finished in January this year.

“It was carried out by Pewterspear Green Trust to improve drainage in the area,” added the spokesperson.

“After consulting with environmental specialists work started in December 2023 to remove dead and dying trees in and around the pond and to remove the silt that had built up after many years.

“Unfortunately, due to the extremely wet winter, the pumping operation took longer than expected.

“The ponds have now refilled and temporary fencing has been installed while the area settles and further landscaping work will be carried out later in the spring, including sowing wildflowers and grasses, so village pond will continue to be a valuable community asset and wildlife haven for many years to come.”
