WILMSLOW’S longest running restaurant is celebrating a very sweet milestone this month.

Heddy’s, Water Lane, has been owned and operated by husband and wife team Heddy and Cathy for 16 years.

Having worked at another restaurant for over 13 years, Heddy decided the time was right to start up his own.

He said: “I don’t know where the time has gone, but it’s been a busy and interesting 16 years.

“We must have prepared over 175,000 meals over the years.  That’s a lot of falafel and kebabs.

“We use fresh and locally sourced products, and are still using recipes which have been passed down the generations. We are really proud of the quality of our food which brings guests back time and again.”

Heddy’s has always been a family affair, with the couple’s three daughters having all waited-on at the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurant.

The trio have since left the family home, but Cathy insists they’re still happy to help out when they return.

She said: “They are now all grown up and living in London, with the eldest Yasamin who is 26 and recently got married working in events, Ellahay working in the fashion industry, and our youngest Fariba studying government and politics at the London School of Economics.

“But they still enjoy working a shift at the restaurant and chatting to our regular customers when they come to visit us.”

The restaurant – based at the former Alkazaar site – has undergone a number of renovations over the years, including doubling its floorspace by extending into the property next door.

Heddy’s has welcomed a host of famous faces through its doors over the years, and Heddy is hoping that the restaurant will enjoy many more years of success.

He said: “We have enjoyed serving the Wilmslow community, as well as a number of celebrities and indeed royalty including Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

“A particular highlight of the last 16 years has to be cooking lobster on charcoal on live TV as part of a demonstration for This Morning.

“We are really grateful to all of our customers who have supported us through the years.  We hope that they have had as much fun in the restaurant as we have had and we look forward to celebrating countless more birthdays.”
