THIRTY eight ramblers joined the coach for the long journey to Beddgelert at the foot of Mount Snowdon recently.

The B and D groups alighted first at Rhyd-Ddu. Jennifer Southern took her D group through the forest to Beddgelert where they visited Gelert's grave before sneaking off to the ice cream shop after walking six-and-a-half miles and climbing 500ft.

The B group led by Babara Penlington climbed to Bwlch-Cwm-Llan and descended through the old slate quarry to join the Watkin Path down to Pont Bethania.

They continued beneath Bryn Castell and back along the Glaslyn river after 10 miles with 2,200ft of climbing.

The A group led by Malcolm Naylor made the steep ascent to Moel Hebog and continued over Yr Ogof and Lefn before returning through Beddgelert forest after seven miles with 3,200ft of ascent. Grahame Reid took his C party south down the Glaslyn valley before climbing through Cwm Bychan and down to Llyn Dinas.

A pleasant return along the river completed eight-and-a-half miles with 800ft of ascent.

It was cloudy but dry all day and a cool breeze cooled hot limbs on the climbs. Back in Beddgelert the many pubs and tea shops catered for their post walk needs.

The next trip will be to Orton in Cumbria on Sunday, July 5. For more details, and to book your seat, contact Barbara Ward 01565 651765.
