VICE president Diane Downs welcomed members to the June meeting of Boothsmere WI. Business matters were discussed and dealt with.

Their birthday party held in May had been a great success and members had enjoyed a delicious meal with a fun quiz to round off the evening.

The next social event is the cheese and wine evening in August.

Reports were given by Chris Brown, who had attended the Centenary Annual Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall, and Jean Heap, who had attended the Buckingham Palace Garden Party.

The guest speaker for the meeting was Gillian Edwards from the North West Air Ambulance service. Gillian is the regional fundraiser for the charity, which relies on charitable donations to keep the service in operation.

We are very fortunate in our area to have three helicopters operated by highly trained doctors and paramedics who respond to emergency calls across the region, attending major incidents and transferring patients to specialist hospitals.

The next meeting will be on Monday, July 13.
