WILMSLOW pupils from Withington Girls' School are amongst the top performers in this year’s outstanding raft of GCSE results.

High achievers included Isobel McIntyre who achieved the elite A* grade in 11 subjects including an A* with distinction in further maths, plus an A; Mimi Johnson who celebrated 10 A*s and an A grade; Lorna Mayo who secured 9 A*s including an A* with distinction in further maths and 2 As; Claudia Chavasse whose grades included 7 A*s and 2 As, and Anam Siddiqi whose grades included 5 A*s and 4 A grades.

Withington’s headmistress Sue Marks, who is retiring from her post this week after leading the school for the past six years, praised the girls for their hard work and motivation and also commended the WGS staff for their dedication.

“I am absolutely delighted for all our girls”, she said.

“These results are wonderful achievements which will prepare them exceptionally well for study at Advanced level and then at university and in their future careers. The results reflect the girls’ own high ability and hard work, the splendid support of their families and their teachers’ own passion for their subjects, commitment to excellent teaching and individual support of the girls. I wish them – and my successor Mrs Sarah Haslam – every success and happiness for the future”.
