AN Alderley Edge fashion brand has received a welcome boost from a six-time Olympic champion.

Chelford star Jason Kenny has been sporting items by Meccanica Clothing, in George Street, after fellow cyclist Sir Chris Hoy introduced him to the brand.

Jason has been a regular customer at Meccanica ever since, and gave the company a real surprise during a 24-hour cycle race at Brands Hatch by asking them to be his sponsor.

Colin Ball, Meccanica founder, said: “Jason really likes that the brand is local, and before the Olympics he asked if we could supply some shorts for his first event following Rio.

“We said yes – and he decided to call the team Meccanica.

“We were incredibly proud to be asked to be team sponsor on Jason’s first outing after the Olympics, for some relaxation and a bit of fun with his close family.”

Jason, alongside a team including his father Michael, and Laura Trott’s father Adrian, took part as one of 380 riders in the Revolve 24 relay event from 3pm on Saturday, September 10, to 3pm on Sunday, September 11.

Team Meccanica finished eighth in its category, while Jason took the King of the Mountain stage win.

In response to demand following the event, the company has taken pre-orders on its items, and re-released its summer-only technical jersey which Jason sported.

“It’s a real boost for us to have Jason support the company because people come across his pictures on Instagram, and in a lot of them he’s wearing our clothes,” Colin said.

“He’s doing it to spread the love and the name of the brand – and he’s a very nice bloke!”

Meccanica designs and manufactures a range of jeans, jackets, polos and T-shirts, as well as cycling jerseys, with a nod to British engineering and Italian design.
