ALDERLEY Edge Hockey Club's men warmed up for the new league campaign with a 7-1 victory over Bowdon' seconds.

After some good possession McCormick netted from a short corner and Scott Ashdown scored from the top of the D.

Warburton hit the mark and a solo effort from Si Parr put Edge 4-0 in front at half time.

Warburton converted another two efforts as Edge continued to keep good possession and stopped Bowdon from creating any real opportunities.

Edge's seconds fulfilled the first team's Cheshire Cup match against Bebington and, despite dominating possession, they lost to more clinical opponents 4-2.

The thirds beat Bowdon 4-2 in an almost exemplary performance against a team from two divisions higher.

In other showdowns with Bowdon, the respective fifth teams went head to head and drew 1-1.

Alisdair Smith scored a lovely goal for Edge with a reverse stick finish, while Josh Benton played with confidence at full back.

The women's seconds and thirds enjoyed a frenetic 2-2 draw in Cheshire League Division One.

Vicky Alexander opened the scoring for the thirds and after Jude Offer equalised Bethany Woodhead scored with a very sharp finish.

In the second half the seconds started stronger and Nicola Hall scored after a scramble in the D.

The fourths produced a feisty display to win their home fixture against Runcorn 3-0 in Division 3, while a somewhat depleted fifths won 2-0 at Deeside Ramblers in Division Four with goals from Becky West and Amy Worsley.

The newly formed sevenths outran Crewe Vagrants' fourths but experience counted in a 3-0 loss.
