WILMSLOW Hockey Club’s men’s first team produced a slick performance to secure a 4-1 victory over City of Manchester.

In their first home league game of the season, Wilmslow fell behind early on to a Ryan Bishop goal and that was how it stayed until half-time.

Pete Hallinan equalised after the break before James Warburton gave the hosts the lead three minutes later.

Debutant Bastiaan Steffans made it three with a casual finish before Steve Edmonds made the scoreline more convincing for Wilmslow, who travel to face Colwyn Bay in their next fixture.

The men’s seconds kickstarted their campaign with a convincing 6-1 success at Triton, helped along by a hat-trick from Paul Hallam.

James Bell opened the scoring in the first half before Wilmslow took advantage of a tiring home side after the break, with Hallam scoring his first before Ric Phieffer made it three.

Youngster Marten Hall’s precise strike made it four before two quick goals allowed Hallam to complete his treble, with Triton securing a consolation goal near the end.

The ladies first team could consider themselves unlucky to lose 2-0 at Wrexham, but the second team thrashed a hapless Northop Hall 6-0, with Rachel Payne scoring twice to add to Fiona Jeffers, Louise Charlesworth, Jess Finney and Fiona Campbell strikes.

The ladies thirds beat local rivals Alderley Edge 4-1 and the fourths beat Macclesfield 4-2.
