ALDERLEY Edge Tennis Club are in celebratory mood.

Honours were achieved by two of their members, while the boys’ under 18s team collected a prestigious piece of silverware at the Cheshire Lawn Tennis Association awards ceremony.

In front of almost 300 guests, Stuart Murray was awarded the Development Coach of the Year award – less than two years after joining Alderley Edge Tennis Club as head coach.

Ruth Samuels, Alderley Edge Tennis Club’s junior section chairman as well as honorary secretary of the whole club, was presented with the Unsung Hero award by Michael Downey, chief executive of the LTA.

The awards aim to celebrate and reward the people and venues that are the driving force behind British tennis.

On the same evening, Edge’s boys’ under 18s team, consisting of Oscar Walter, Zac Roberts, Max Ridings and Chris Sibbett, were presented with the Monkhouse Shield, a county-wide tournament which they won in September.  The prize had last been won by an Alderley Edge team in 1983.
