WILMSLOW’S Sale Sharks star Sam James is building on his impressive form of 2015-2016.

The 22-year-old, rewarded with a new four-year deal at the club in the summer, has featured in the majority of Sharks’ matches so far this season, scoring one try in the process.

Appearances have come in both centre shirts and at number 10.

James, a former Manchester Rugby Club senior colt who studied at Wilmslow High School, was joint winner of Sharks’ Young Player of the Season award in what was a breakthrough campaign for him last term.

And he was shortlisted for a similar prize at national level too.

His form was noticed at international level.

During the summer he was selected for the England Saxons tour of South Africa.

Sale’s director of rugby has already hinted at James pushing towards an England call up in the not too distant future if he can continue to build on his achievements so far.

The 22 year-old made his Aviva Premiership debut for the club in 2014 against Northampton Saints before really making his mark last season as one of the best young talents in the Aviva Premiership.

He notched seven tries in 24 appearances to help the club to sixth place in the Premiership and secure a spot in the European Champions Cup.

James recently joined other members of the Sharks squad at SEA LIFE Manchester, taking a day off training to celebrate a new sponsorship agreement.

He joined 2016 signing Byron McGuigan in plunging into the venue’s ocean depths to come nose to fin with Manchester’s shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks and other residents.

And he will be hoping to be in action on the field on Friday when Sale host Exeter Chiefs at the AJ Bell Stadium, kick off 7.45pm.
