MOBBERLEY A duo Paul Adkin and Mark Newall, a two-time winner, secured a place at the Redwood Hire Champions Trophy finals day after coming through a high-quality preliminary on Sunday.

They joined the rest of the top 16 ranked players in Division One at Victory Hall, where Dave Whalley (Alderley Union) racked up a 43 break in the first round.

Steve Flinders (Mobberley A) went one point better, only for clubmate – and last year’s winner – Bruce Tulley to post a run of 60 later on.

However none of them progressed to the next stage.

A qualifier for the leading Division Two players is scheduled at the same venue this weekend.

Shaw Heath’s hold on second spot was weakened following a slender win at Brook Street A, who claimed an aggregate bonus point thanks to Gary Long amassing 102 points in his frame success against Jim Hall.

Champions Mobberley A extended a winning sequence to 19 matches following a 5-2 success at home to back-markers Morley.

Mobberley C took a significant step towards claiming the Division Two title when they saw off closest rivals Wilmslow Cons B, establishing a 14-point lead.

Wilmslow RBL, in third place, could not take advantage after they were edged out by promotion-hopefuls Mere B.

In-form Mobberley D recorded a third successive victory by beating hosts Brook Street B.
