ALDERLEY Edge Golf Club’s new assistant professional Luke Harris is looking forward to enjoying his role after making the long move from Louth in Lincolnshire.

Harris enjoyed his time as a junior, amateur and professional, and one of his big aims in his job at Alderley will be to develop the junior academy.

He said: “Junior golf started early for me as I was four years old when I started.

"My grandfather is a relative of Tony Jacklin so I guess that someone in the family was going to be a golfer.

“I progressed quickly and won my first men’s competition at the age of 13 and went on to play county golf for Lincolnshire boys and then progressed further to England schoolboy level briefly.

“I turned professional in 2012 after qualifying for the EuroPro Tour but unfortunately due to an on-going elbow injury that was cut short after one event and I have not been able to play at that level since due to the amount of rounds and practice required – my elbow just cannot stand the pressure.

“Alderley Edge Golf Club and their professional Charles le Sueur made me feel very welcome from the moment I arrived and after numerous conversations with Charles I knew that it was where I wanted to be and get my PGA qualification.

“I have taken over the junior academy and I hope to make it the largest in the area.

"Juniors are fundamental to the future of golf and I believe that along with Charles and the club we can have great success.

“I hope to play on the local professional circuit as I still enjoy the competitive side to the game but my main focus is junior progression.

“Finally I want to thank my partner for her continued support that she has given me and continues to give me. She is a key part to the move and without her say-so I would not have been working at Alderley Edge or where I am today in the sense of the person she makes me and the drive she gives me.

“A special thanks also to my grandfather because without him none of this would be possible as he has believed in me through good times and bad so I thank him for all he has done for me.”

Meanwhile, a Sunday ‘Open to All’ singles Stableford at Styal Golf Club was won comfortably by Stuart Howarth.

He strolled to victory with 44 points from Andy Sharrocks and Steve James, both 39.

The latest Winter League round for Styal ladies had Lynn Guy out on her own with 30 points from Mel Hill, 24, and Helen Billington, 23.
