MIKE Roylance made the most of his opponent missing a crucial black to claim the Knutsford and District Snooker League’s Jay Trophy for a second time.

The Mobberley A captain edged a tense final, recovering from a frame down to edge out clubmate Mark Newall 2-1 at Victory Hall on Wednesday.

Roylance had won the league’s premier scratch singles competition for the first time back in 2005, putting behind him the disappointment of losing to Bruce Tulley on his maiden appearance in the final three years earlier.

Coincidentally, Roylance ended the run of the nine-time winner at the semi-finals stage this time around, while Newall saw off Shaw Heath’s Mark Jenyons.

Semi finals: Mark Jenyons (Shaw Heath) 0-2 Mark Newall (Mobberley A); Bruce Tulley (Mobberley A) 1-2 Mike Roylance (Mobberley A).

They join Mobberley A’s Paul Adkin and Mark Newall in the last four at Victory Hall, where the lower-ranked men will receive a 20-point handicap head-start.
