WILMSLOW High School senior boys’ tennis team will contest finals of a national event in Bolton this weekend.

Mike Armstrong, James Graham, Ollie Dixon and Adam Robison booked their place in the senior students national tennis competition deciders on Saturday and Sunday thanks to victory over Bolton’s Canon Slade.

After the first round of singles the Wilmslow boys trailed three matches to one.

However, after playing some excellent doubles they managed to claw their way back to draw the match 3-3.

In a nail-biting finish, Wilmslow won the championship tie-break shootout to join the last eight in the finals.

Meanwhile, Wilmslow’s boys’ under 15s football team bowed out of the Cheshire Cup at the quarter finals stage.

They were unfortunate in fielding a weakened side and lost 4-3 in a tense encounter at Helsby.

The under 15s, 16s and senior netball squads enjoyed a successful tour of Surrey.

With two fixtures to play and coaching sessions from Surrey Storm’s Super League players, there was not much time to rest.

They broke up the journey south to face Thomas Telford on the Friday.

Four wins were posted, with the under 16s blowing their opponents away by scoring 48 points.

The senior matches were reasonably close, with the A team winning narrowly 20-19.

On the Saturday the senior girls played Beaconsfield School, who had a goal shooter and goalkeeper standing at 6ft 5ins tall.

They proved tougher opposition than the previous day, with the senior A team losing 46-26 and the B team falling 28-18.

The highlight, though, was the under 16s girls securing an 18-14 win against the Wycombe regional squad, with Molly Cunningham receiving the player-of-the-match award.
