WILMSLOW Half Marathon men’s course record holder Isaac Macharia Wanjohi produced one of the best times of his career when he set off from King’s Road in 2004.

In 13.1 mile events, the Kenyan had only run faster once – that was 19 seconds better than his Wilmslow 1:01.52 when collecting silver at the Salzburg Half Marathon in Austria in 2002.

It took him another two years to better it, producing 1:00.53 to take silver at the Route du Vin Half Marathon in Remich, Luxembourg.

And there were only two other faster times in a decorated career – the 1:00.48 in finishing second in the New Delhi Half Marathon in 2007 and the 1:01.32 in finishing fifth at the Prague 13.1 event in 2009.

He won plenty, including in Boulogne-Billancourt (France), Djibouti, Berlin (Germany), Bogotá (Colombia) and Glasgow in an honours list that ran until 2012, but all at slower speed.

Wanjohi was also a consistent performer in marathons across the world, collecting medals over 26.2 miles in Nagano (Japan), Dubai, Culiacán (Mexico), Mazatlan (Mexico), Shanghai (China) and Dongying (China) between 2005 and 2010.
