KENYAN Perendis Lekapana added a second course record to her CV after her heroics two years ago in the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

Lekapana, a member of the Run Fast group, ended 2010 Commonwealth Games marathon runner Michelle Ross-Cope’s five-year reign as fastest woman around the Wilmslow route in 2015, also winning the Reims Half Marathon in France that season.

Then last year she ran sub-70 minutes over 13.1 miles for the first time when speeding around the Wachau course in Austria faster than any other woman has done so.

Her consistency sealed gold in the Venloop Half Marathon (Netherlands) and Warsaw Half Marathon (Poland) in 2016.

Ross-Cope won the Wilmslow Half Marathon in the three subsequent editions to her course-breaking success of 2010, ending Suzanne Rigg’s fine achievement of 18 years as record holder.

American-born Rigg, who joined Warrington Athletics Club from Sale Harriers, broke her own record in 1996 ahead of representing Great Britain in the marathon at the Atlanta Olympics in the same year.
