ALDERLEY Edge Hockey Club women's team are through to the Investec Trophy final, the competition they won for the first time last year.

The reigning champions defeated Lancaster 3-1 in their semi final on Sunday to book a repeat trip south next month.

All Edge’s goals came from short corners in a game they dominated for long periods.

Awaiting Edge, who defeated Harrogate 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out in last year's final at Lee Valley Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, are Nottingham University.

But in the meantime Edge, who have lost only three games all season, have the matter of taking on Wilmslow in the Cheshire Cup this Saturday.

And while their league season is now over, they still await final results from the Investec North Conference to determine whether or not they are promoted into that league next season.

Edge's seconds, runners up in Cheshire Women's League One, ensured they ended their season with a win.

Two goals from Emily Fell and one apiece from Georgie Dare and Millie Clee saw them run out 4-1 winners against Northop.

A young thirds also posted a win in the same league. They beat Neston 5-0 to finish seventh in the table.

The fourths suffered a 10-0 loss against Division Three winners, Wilmslow's seconds, but the fifths had a better day beating Sale's thirds 5-1.

A hat-trick from Emma Fluck and one apiece from Katy Smith and Gemma Holland sealed the deal and ensured a third-place finish.
