WILMSLOW student Oliver Lyons received the special trophy during Beech Hall School’s inaugural rugby awards.

The 11-year-old’s reward reflects his commitment, having not missed a single training session since rugby was introduced at the Macclesfield school in September.

Headmaster James Allen said: “Oliver is a fantastic example of why introducing rugby to the school was the right thing to do. He’s a great player who shows fantastic sportsmanship and dedication.”

Head coach at Macclesfield Rugby Club, Giles Heagerty, and commercial director David Wilkinson presented Oliver with the trophy in front of the rest of his team and staff.

Heagerty led a training session with Oliver and his teammates too.

“I was so proud to have been awarded a trophy and getting to hear new tips from Giles was great,” said Oliver.
