LINDOW Cricket Club head coach Liam Castellas said he is looking forward to a busy and successful 2017 season.

The man behind guiding the Upcast Lane outfit into their second season in Cheshire County League Division Two, starting with a home game against Brooklands tomorrow, Saturday, has just been handed the reins of Lancashire women's second XI too.

And that adds to the Australian's third head-coach role at Myerscough College in Preston.

It has certainly been a whirlwind 12 months for the high performance coach.

Since moving from Australia to Lancashire, England, he could be forgiven for seeing nothing but a blur.

"It's been very busy that's for sure," he said.

"I'm very fortunate to have enjoyed an enjoyable professional life here thus far and this new appointment is very exciting."

Arriving for the 2016 season in May, Castellas coached Flowery Field Cricket Club in the Greater Manchester League to promotion, lifting the side from a second-bottom finish the previous year.

"It was a very pleasing experience," he said.

"Obviously a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes to put together the playing list and structures. Then all the 'hands on' work with the players to bring the best out in them."

Then, from a strong field of candidates – including first-class cricketers and coaches – Castellas was offered the full-time role of cricket lecturer/ head cricket coach at Myerscough College.

The role combines training and fixtures with academic lessons towards qualifications.

"I was delighted to accept the position," he said.

"It was completely unexpected but I was extremely happy to be able to work full-time in cricket."

Starting last July, Castellas spent his summer days building a new full-time cricket programme for his students aged 16 to 19.

"The programme caters for all ability levels, including several county-standard players – so it was exciting to explore the scope a full-time programme offers," he said.

Looking to add a new challenge last September, Castellas accepted the head coach role at Lindow Cricket Club.

"We have been building over the winter with a very new-look squad," he said.

"Everyone has been working very hard to prepare ourselves well and we expect some good results this season.

"All the people at the club have been very welcoming."

And now Castellas has his Lancashire women's second XI role too.

There, he will be charged with helping to build a solid base of players for selection in county cricket and also the women's T20 Super League.

Having already coached his native Victoria to several Australian national finals in the girls' competition while studying for his level 4 coach accreditation, Castellas is keen to repeat this success with his adopted home.
