NEW Alderley Edge Golf Club lady captain Yvonne Grundy reckons a Hollywood heartthrob, a member of the royal family and the president of the USA would be perfect partners on the fairway.

She said: “If I could choose three partners to join me in a fourball they would be George Clooney, why not?; Prince Harry, just for fun; and Donald Trump, should be interesting and he can choose where we all play!”

Golf has played a growing role in Yvonne's life in recent years.

She only became a full member at Alderley Edge Golf Club in 2012 after joining in an introductory category.

The former learning support teacher, who found her work very rewarding, is delighted to be the lady captain this year as she has found the club a great one in which to enjoy golf both competitively and socially – and has made some lovely friends.

Yvonne, whose current handicap is 31, said: “I have only been able to play once a week at the moment but I hope to increase this to three times a week in the summer months.

“My favourite hole at my club is the first because going down the fairway it has some lovely views and my other favourite course is Tavistock in Devon where again the views are superb and the Dartmoor ponies always make the course very interesting!

“My own personal golfing highlight came when I first joined the club and I needed a card of 117 gross to enable me to play in competitions. Val Hornsby (now lady president) marked my card and oh did we jump for joy when I came in with 114.

“My hobbies, other than golf, are cooking and gardening and my chosen charity to support is Macmillan Nurses."
