A SECOND maximum-point win sees Wilmslow CC in top spot in UKFast Cheshire League Division Two.

After accumulating 207 for 8 they bowled out Poynton for 125.

It was the first ever senior league meeting between the two sides.

A few years ago, Poynton were playing at the very top tier of Cheshire cricket.

Some of that class was evident on the first ball of the second innings when ‘Jags’ Narayanan was lifted effortlessly for four over his head by home skipper Gould.

That class however, was undone when Gould, 30, got out to Jake Woodhouse, 2 for27, in his second senior appearance.

When Williams, 27, was caught on the boundary off Lloyd Sykes, 3 for 26, the Squirrels sensed a ‘dig for victory’ as Poynton put up the wall.

Narayanan, 2 for 27, as ever, had the final word and it was he and Ethan Harding, 2 for 21, who won the game with two overs to spare.

Earlier, the Squirrels topped 200 runs for a second week, suggesting some haste.

That certainly applies to Adam Dixon, whose sparkling 61 came in around 20 balls.

That said, Elliot Rowe, 25, Rob Herriot, 26, and Harding, 50, were far more circumspect on a low and slow track.

This Saturday sees the visit of Prestbury, also with two wins, so it should be a good game to watch at the Rectory from 1.30pm.
