LINDOW’S bowlers worked wonders to secure a victory at Mobberley.

Having only scored 133 in their innings, Lindow, who had elected to bat first on a very good pitch, appeared to be on the wrong end of a one-way affair in Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two.

A storm during Lindow’s sixth over had not helped matters.

But opening bowlers Tim Young (15-6-36-4) and Alex Mathews (15-6-30-3) delivered very good lines and built up a lot of pressure for the batsmen of Mobberley, who were reeling at 23 for 5.

Abdul Aqeel, 31, the main threat for the home side, was caught by Luke Unsworth at cover off Jahangir Mustaq (5-0-14-1), leaving Ben Tyler (6.4-2-11-2) to clean up the tail.

Earlier, Lindow were 32 at the point of having lost both openers and although they went on to score at a good rate they lost wickets.

Osman Butt, 23, Tom Parfett, 27, and a late flourish from Jahangir Mustaq, 21, proved invaluable in the final reckoning.

Lindow, currently second five points behind Barrow, could take a firmer grip of a top-two spot when they host third-placed Stockport, who are two points adrift, on Saturday.

Before then, Lindow head to Bowdon tonight, Thursday, in Joseph Holt Brewery T20 Group Four game.

Lindow’s seconds strolled to victory over Middlewich by 173 runs. Matt Ramsden was the man of the match, scoring 76 of the 226 for 3 total before bowling his beguiling leg spin and claiming 5 for 18 as Middlewich were bowled out for 52.

Jimmy Bracewell, 52, Dan Braddock, 35, Sam Walker, 2 for 6, and Mushy Ahmed, 2 for 13, made huge contributions too.

In a weekend clean sweep, Lindow’s thirds celebrated success against Wilmslow, who batted first on a good looking pitch.

Despite starting slowly it was not until drinks were imminent that the first wicket fell when Ben Gedrodge removed the dogged Les Hart thanks to a smart catch by third XI debutant Ian Park.

Runs proved difficult to come by until Waqar Malik smashed 42 off very few balls before James Venables caught him with a stunning one-handed diving catch.

Wilmslow then accumulated runs steadily but Calum Livingstone, Rowan Day and his son Joe kept the scoring tight before the visitors finished on 147 for 7.

In reply, Max Espley and Pete Venables started at a cracking rate putting on more than 70 for the first wicket.

Espley fell for 37, whereupon Park came to the crease and the tempo continued.

Venables brought up his first half century of the season and Lindow wrapped up the game with no further wickets lost and with 13 overs to spare.
