WILMSLOW CC turned their batting performance around in the space of a week.

The Squirrels entered the field against Chelford on Saturday with some trepidation, having been skittled for just 22 the previous week at mid-table Stockport Trinity.

But an impressive 216-3, despite reduced overs due to rain, was a huge response and comfortably enough to climb to third place in UKFast Cheshire League Division Two.

Jags Narayanan (84) and Rob Herriott (44) in an aggressive opening stand of 103 quickly erased the doubts.

Ethan Harding (34no) and Elliot Rowe (35no) were a little more circumspect but nonetheless just as effective.

Sharif, with 2-50, was the best of the eight bowlers used by the visitors.

Played in great spirit, Chelford most definitely adopt the more cavalier approach to their cricket.

On a sun-baked Rectory Field it might work, but this was a slow turner.

It was those two again, Rowe (5-10) and Harding (3-25) who did the damage, with several wickets coming from catches on the boundary.

The Squirrels are now a point behind second-placed Woodford and travel to league leaders Kingsley on Saturday.

News was not so good for Wilmslow CC’s seconds and thirds at the weekend.

Neither of them mastered the wet conditions and posted inadequate scores.

Despite a classy 30 from Adnan, the seconds lost by six wickets at Bowdon Vale and the thirds by eight wickets at Trinity.
