A CARD play-off was needed to determine the victor of a junior stableford competition at Styal Golf Club.

Harry Craven eventually came out on top against Ryan Owen after they both finished on 37 points.

Hot on their heels, a point off the pace, were Jay Franks and Joe Blackburn.

Styal’s Friday Frolics event was won by Laurence Hodge with 20 points, who scored better than Lee O’Connell, 19, and Simon Tracey and Ann Moss, both 18.

Meanwhile, Styal Golf Club's women's team have been drawn at home to Mellor in the last 32 of the Bell Cup.

The competition is the blue riband competition for the Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association, with nearly 90 clubs from across the region putting their best seven players into the matchplay knockout.

The initial aim is to be one of the last four teams standing in order to progress to the finals day, with the semi-finals and final this year being held at Bury Golf Club on Friday. September 1.

Holders Dean Wood made an early exit, being beaten 4/3 by Wilpshire.
