WILMSLOW High School’s senior girls tennis team have booked a place at the national finals for the fourth year in a row.

Olivia French, Ellie Aldrich, Jess Purdy and Laura Jackson sealed a safe passage with victory over Ellesmere College in the final knockout stage of the Aberdare Cup.

Although the win was secured by four matches to one, the contest was extremely competitive.

The national finals will take place in Nottingham in July.

There has been further success for Wilmslow High School teams on the tennis court.

The under 13s girls won an Aegon schools league match against Fallibroome convincingly.

Wilmslow’s girls won 12-0, playing some fantastic tennis as each player won singles matches before going on to complete a clean sweep in the doubles.

Year nine girls played above their age in an under 15s Aegon match against Queen’s Chester.

They were defeated four sets to two in an extremely close match, with pairs three and four playing a tie-break in both their singles and their doubles.

Meanwhile, eight students took part in the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership competition.

Year seven pair Ellie Wood and Georgie Offer in finished as winners of the girls event to go through to the county finals on Wednesday, July 5.

Third place was achieved by the year eight boys pair Sam Clawley and Callan Bourne as well as the year eight girls double act of Anna and Evie Clayton.

And there has been cause for celebration in rounders too.

The year nine girls’ team won all three games in the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership competition to progress to next week’s county finals on July 5.

They defeated Tytherington 5½-1, Poynton 6½-2 and Knutsford 6-5.
