PREMIERSHIP Rugby side Sale Sharks are coming back to Wilmslow this summer to give youngsters the chance to meet the club’s biggest stars and develop their skills at a rugby camp ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The two-day course at Wilmslow Rugby Club’s Memorial Ground runs from Monday, August 21, and is aimed at both boys and girls aged between six and 12.

RFU qualified coaches from Sale Sharks’ award-winning community team will give youngsters advice on core skills such as running, evasion, handling, kicking and tackling as well as decision making in both attack and defence through games for understanding, with a sense of fun and enjoyment.

And youngsters who sign up will all get the chance to meet first-team players, such as new England call-ups Tom and Ben Curry, either on the camp or at a mini and junior training session during the season.

Last year’s summer camps, including one at Wilmslow, attracted more than 600 young people.

Darren Lamon, the lead coach for the Sale Sharks camps, said: “These camps give us the chance to get out into the rugby clubs around the north west and see just how much talent there is among the region’s youngsters and for those who just want to have a go, they’re perfect too.

“Our 2016 summer camps were incredibly popular and our academy coaches can’t wait to get out there again and deliver top quality tips and advice.

“We’re expecting two fantastic days of rugby in Wilmslow but places are limited so we’re urging people to book early to avoid disappointment. These camps really are where young Sharks cut their teeth.”

Sale Sharks first team winger Will Addison was discovered at one of the club’s residential summer camps.

He said: “These camps are a fantastic chance to learn new skills from the very best academy coaches in the business and you never know what could come out of them.

“For some of the older kids, going to a camp might be the start of something special. If you have the talent, there’s no reason why a camp couldn’t be a route into the club’s academy structure. That’s where I got my big break.”

The camps, which are being run in conjunction with Premiership Rugby, cost £50 per child and that price includes a Sale Sharks branded gift as well as a ticket to a Sharks home game.
