ALDERLEY Edge and Lindow returned shocking results in the Cheshire County Cricket League on Saturday.

Question marks are hanging over Edge’s ability to hold on to te ECB Premier League title after a crushing six-week home loss to Nantwich, hot on the heels of being knocked off top spot through defeat to Bramhall seven days earlier.

The Moss Lane men, who were missing skipper and wicket-keeper Adam Worrall, were bowled out for 92 as they had no answer to the pace and movement of Jimmy Warrington (5-35) and Ollie Freckingham (2-28) plus spinner Shaneil Patel (2-8).

Alan Day and Tom Foreman jointly top-scored with modest innings of 21.

The Dabbers replied with 97-4, Luke Robinson (48no) and Ryan Brown (38) leading the way after an early struggle at 26-3.

Chester Boughton Hall recorded their seventh successive victory, after a typically bold run chase at home to Bramhall, to extend their lead at the top to 32 points.

Alderley Edge will attempt to get back on track when they host fifth-placed Timperley on Saturday.

Lindow, meanwhile, were undone by promotion rivals Romiley in Division Two.

Romily leapfrogged the hosts into second place thanks to a low-scoring four-wicket win at Upcast Lane.

Amazingly, Lindow were bowled out for a miserly 55 runs in the 32nd over.

Things did not start well as opener Matt Ramsden was back in the pavilion after the second ball he faced.

Tom Parfett (10) and Alex Matthews (12no) ended as Lindow’s top scorers as they struggled to defy the attack from Mohan D’Souza (6-26) and James Badrock (3-14).

Huge credit is due to Tim Young for not giving up the fight.

As Romiley took to the crease Young set out on a one-man crusade to still bag Lindow the win.

He took 5-27 in 12 overs but after a fright D’Souza (23no) and Sam Astley (9no) managed to get Romiley over the line.

Lindow, who visit bottom-of-the-table Cheadle Hulme on Saturday, are now 10 points behind Romiley and 21 points adrift of leaders Barrow, while Stockport, Alvanley and Brooklands are looking to claw their way into contention just four points behind.
