WILL Lucas was in the running in the Wilmslow Golf Club Junior Open.

The Styal Golf Club youngster’s gross score was one behind two rivals who could only be separated by a card play-off.

Four handicapper Matt Gardner (Prestbury GC) won with 74 after the cpo with Nathan Newton.

It also needed a cpo on 67 to see Alex Peake (Crewe GC) win the best nett prize and the Robinson Trophy from Niall Curwen (Bramall Park).

Curwen was a winner of the best under 15s nett prize.

The girls prize was won by Siobhan Grayson (Ringway).

Wilmslow’s men were busy in a par competition for the Nowicki Trophy.

Stephen Evans-Jones was an impressive winner with +5 from Nigel Stewart and David Foreman, Fergus Wilson and Gary Brebner, all +2.

Wilmslow’s women were in stableford mode and in Division One Maureen Thompson was first past the post with 37 points from Janet Smith, 36, and Elizabeth Black and Maureen Nicholson, both 34.

In Division Two Ewa Papis posted 36 points to finish clear of Bridget Madden, 33, and Moira Campbell, 31.

Alderley Edge Golf Club’s women played their August medal and Sue Freeman led in with 71 from Olwen Davies and Gwyneth Holt and Wendy Rule, all 73.

A white tee medal for Styal’s seniors saw class come to the top as Daniel Tuohy won a cpo on 68 from Harry Reid.

A Wednesday stableford for Styal’s men was won by Khalil Musa with 34 points from Ken Mayoh, 32, star junior Will Dodds and Rick Worsley, both 31.

Styal Ladies played the latest round of the Summer Cup and Fiona Anderson was a clear winner with 19 points from Janice Whalley, Sue Grange and Pat Chadwick, all 15.
