ALDERLEY Edge Hockey Club women’s team smashed seven goals past Sheffield Hallam on Saturday as they made in three wins in a row.

Once again the Moss Lane girls, promoted last season and sitting fourth on the ladder, showed how well they are handling competing at a level higher than the club has achieved before.

They were 4-0 ahead by half time.

Lexi Archer deflected home a short-corner strike from birthday girl Sarah Hopkin.

From a scramble in the D Nic Hall picked up a shot from Amanda Bennison.

Goals three and four were the products of short-corner routines, with Annie Hebb and Dominique Debeijer netting.

Hall stole the ball from a defender and crossed for Bennison to make it 5-1.

Sheffield responded twice from short-corner routines before Edge livened up again to add goals from Hopkin and player-of-the-match Issy Reynolds-Duffy.

A sterner challenge awaits Edge this weekend when they visit third-placed Doncaster, who have not conceded a goal in their past three North Hockey Women’s League Premier Division matches.

Both Edge and Doncaster are a point behind leaders Leeds in a tight top four.

The men’s team paid the price for not making possession count in a 1-1 draw with Timperley in a mid-table North Premier League clash.

Edge broke the deadlock in the second half when Warburton found Johnson, who finished smartly with a first-time shot into the corner of the goal.

Jim Riley had to make a string of saves after Edge started to sit back and the pressure told when Timperley scored an equaliser two minutes from time.

In Cheshire League Division One, Edge women's seconds drew 1-1 with Macclesfield.

Edge had the majority of possession and numerous short corners but struggled to penetrate Macc’s organised defence.

Both goals came in the second half, Macc scoring from a highly contentious short corner before Lois McTiffin lifted a shot above the Macclesfield goalkeeper.

A young women's fourths won 3-1 at Wilmslow's thirds. Izzy Broadhurst scored twice, the result of some great play down the wings, with Amber Oxley adding the third.

The men's seconds lost at home 6-2 against a young and fast Windermere side that took over top spot in North League Division Two.

Charlie Whittaker, Rory Savin, James Parkin and Louis Godfrey scored as the men's fourths achieved their first win of the season against a physical and experienced Runcorn side sitting second in North West Division Four.

The club's under 16s boys and girls teams kicked off their England Hockey Cup campaigns against Bowdon.

Playing as a unit, the girls' slick passing left Bowdon wanting in a 4-1 win that featured a hat-trick from Libby McCoy. Lois McTiffin pushed home Edge’s other goal.

The boys’ game finished 2-2, with Simon Swatland and James Parkin notching Edge's goals.
