ALDERLEY Edge Hockey Club’s men’s first team earned a crucial victory over their Chester counterparts on Saturday.
James Warburton’s double and a further Sam Gregory strike earned Edge a 3-1 success With the visitors sitting bottom of the league, a win was crucial for Edge as they looked to stay in touch with teams in the top half.
Warburton got them off to a flyer by converting a well-worked short corner and, although Chester found an equaliser, he scored a similar goal after the break to put them 2-1 up.
Gregory then wrapped up the win for Edge as the game moved into its later stages.
Elsewhere, the women’s first team surrendered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 at Doncaster, the former club of coach Andy Gibson.
Dominique Debeijer’s clean shot and Annie Hebb’s tap-in from a short corner gave Edge a dream start before Liv Moores converted after a superb run to seemingly put them in control.
However, the hosts fought back to earn a share of the spoils.
