LINDOW Cricket Club played host to an evening with former England cricket captain and leading commentator, Geoffrey Boycott OBE.

With more than 8,000 runs in 108 Test matches for England, Boycott remains a big draw, attracting more than 400 people to the club’s fundraising dinner in Manchester.

Boycott opened his speech by commenting how impressed he was with Lindow’s junior set-up, saying: “Whatever level of cricket people get to, it all starts with junior cricket and the opportunities Lindow are offering the boys and girls in the local area is fantastic.” After his speech, Boycott was asked a wide range of questions from how England will fare in the Ashes in Australiato what would he say to Donald Trump!

As expected, the crowd were treated to plenty of Boycott’s anecdotes from the game and some of his famous forthright opinions.

This year, Lindow doubled the number of junior teams to 14, launched ‘All Stars Cricket’ for five to seven-year-olds and started a girls’ team.

Proceeds raised from the function will be used to further improve facilities at the club to support the growth in participation numbers.
