WILMSLOW Golf Club’s women, led by lady captain Elizabeth Black, have been producing items for Project Linus UK when not on the course.

“This excellent charity presents quilts, blankets and cushions to terminally ill children," said Elizabeth.

“It allows them to take a very personal possession into hospital each time they go for an appointment or treatment.

“Hospitals can be daunting and impersonal for youngsters, but knowing they have their very own quilt, or cushion with them at all times helps them cope with situations that might alarm many adults.

“I have always spent time sewing and decided during my year as Lady Captain of Wilmslow Golf Club to encourage ladies to join me in producing items for Project Linus UK.

“During the year ladies of all membership categories have spent time at home machining and knitting multi coloured quilts for distribution to children at The Manchester Children’s Hospital and the Starlight Ward at Wythenshawe Hospital."

The second lot of completed work recently meant nearly 40 colourful quilts and cushions were presented to the charity.

Around £4,500 has been raised for charity too during Elizabeth's year as lady captain.

“I have arranged several events such as a talk by a local textile designer, a children’s entertainer, asked a member to run a wine tasting and put on a Middle Eastern evening with belly dancing demonstratio," she said.

“Those, plus raffles, from the club charity day, ladies’ coffee morning, Ladies Open and invitation bridge afternoon and of course the ninth bunker, have totalled enough for roughly £1,500 to be sent to each of my chosen charities – East Cheshire Hospice, The Christie and Macmillan Cancer Care.”
