JACK Muir of Styal Golf Club has been rewarded for impressing in testing conditions at Didsbury Golf Club.

After playing a great part in Cheshire junior teams in 2017, Jack earned a place in the North West England squad for training and coaching during 2018 thanks to his efforts at Didsbury.

County coach Peter Barber led the assessment day that saw just five boys make it through.

He said: “It was a very tough day for the boys and the selection committee who had some very hard decisions to make with the outstanding talent on view.”

Muir will be joined in the training squad by fellow Cheshire boys Liam Gobin from Sandiway and Remy Miller from Prestbury.

There was further action at Styal Golf Club.

The Wednesday nine-hole stableford was a tight affair, Kevin Doherty taking the spoils with 21 points.

Doherty was closely followed by Richard Baldwin and David Mckee, both scoring 20 points.

Styal’s ever-busy seniors were in singles stableford action, Geoffrey Proctor coming out on top with an impressive 43 points.

Brian Appleby closely followed with 41 and Keith Dawson and John Parr, both 40.
