ALDERLEY Edge Hockey Club women’s first team were back in league action with a bang at the weekend following a festive break.

They found themselves on a somewhat chilly mini ‘northern tour,’ travelling to Leeds on Saturday when they beat the University’s first string 3-2.

All three of their goals came in the first half.

They then headed up to Whitley Bay on Sunday.

Unfortunately, they lost that game 2-1 despite playing some great hockey against opposition who currently sit second in the North Premier League, one place ahead of Edge.

Player of the match was goalkeeper Catrin Parry, who made several influential saves.

The women’s were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw in Cheshire League Division One by Oxton’s firsts but retained their position at the top of the league.

They will have all to play for this weekend when they face second-placed Bowdon thirds.

The women’s third team remain at the other end of the table after losing 3-0 to Warrington.

The women’s fourths, fifths, sixths and sevenths all struggled at the weekend, losing their matches.

The future of AEHC women’s hockey was also on display on Saturday with Beavers B (year eight girls) taking on Beavers C (year seven girls). The B’s eventually won 5-1 but the C’s certainly didn’t go down without a fight!

Beavers B were in action again on Sunday in the latest round of the under 13s seven-a-side Greater Manchester Junior Hockey League at the Armitage Centre. They won all five matches and keeper Clarissa Rigby kept a clean sheet.
