WILMSLOW Sports Pumas under 13s football team have secured their place in the Cheshire County Cup Final.

They did so with a pulsating semi-final victory over Stalybridge Celtic on Sunday.

After seemingly having the game won, the Pumas gave up their advantage and looked destined not to climb the final hurdle but they summoned a decisive final rally.

With 15 minutes to go the Pumas were firmly in charge as they led 3-0.

But the spirited Celtic team battled back to draw level with three goals in 10 minutes.

A breathless last five minutes featured the Pumas scoring another three goals to secure a 6-3 win and book their place in the decider against FC Sports.

Pumas manager Brad Monks said: “It was the craziest game of football I’ve ever been involved in.

“From cruising, to nearly throwing it away, to then somehow finding a way to grab the momentum back and go on and win shows just how special these lads are and how they never know when they’re beaten.

“They won a game that at 3-3 they had no right to win and the way they kept their nerve when all around them had lost theirs was something I’m really proud of them for.

“Stalybridge were fantastic and gracious in defeat and the final looks like a really tough game for the boys but with the support they have, and hopefully the support they will get in the final, then I know they’ll be doing everything they can to truly mark the club’s 50th year.”

The final is to take place at Heswall FC in Wirral on Sunday, March 11, kick-off 11am.
