THE annual charity golf day supporting the East Cheshire Hospice at Styal Golf Club was another huge success.

It attracted a big field of over 160 players who enjoyed a course in good condition with excellent weather to support it.

The winning team with 99 points were Martin and David Allmond-Smith, P Wilson and David Broadbridge ahead of Barbara Allen, Helen Kay, Adrieene Wood and Gill Critchelly, 95, and Styal lady captain Mel Hill and her team of Paul Hill and Jane and Andy Rushton, 91.

Hill said: “We made approximately £2,300 on the day to add to the amount of over £53,000 we have raised over the years.” and our thanks go to Styal director of golf Glynn Traynor and his team for a magnificent effort in getting the course match-ready.

“My thanks also go to Mike Rhodes and especially Pat Chadwick for their sterling efforts in organising everything off the course with their usual immaculate efficiencyMeanwhile, Rick Worsley was out on his own in a Wednesday stableford at Styal posting 40 points to finish well clear of Mark Window, 36, and Nigel Hinds, 35.

There was some tidy scoring in a Styal Seniors white tee medal led by George Hutchinson with 70 from Brian Appleby, 71, Harry Reid, 73, and Peter Christie and Michael Collier, both 74.

A Sunday ‘Open to All’ stableford at Styal was won by Colin Hazle with 34 points to lead in from Steven Page, 33, and Mike Roscoe, 32.

Claire Whitney showed her class in a Styal ladies medal, posting 72 to win a card play-off from Joan Chapman with Helen Billington and Diana Hutchinson just a shot off the pace.

Alderley Edge’s men played over 36 holes for the Hospital Cup and Paul McCormack led in with 64+69=133 from Robert Pindar, 136, and Neil McGuinness and Mike Tropu, both 141.

A ladies stableford at Alderley Edge had four players locked on 32 points. Fiona Anderson won the card play-off from Gwyneth Holt, Liz McGuire, Karen Pennington.
