GOLFERS succeeded in representative matches.

Styal Golf Club's Jack Muir helped Cheshire Golf Club's junior boys defeat Shropshire and Herefordshire in their meeting at Crewe Golf Club.

Cheshire got off to a flier as they led the morning foursomes by 4.5 to 1.5 with wins, in some close games, for Muir and Liam Mann (Bramhall), Alex Lamb (Marple) and Ben Lee (Ringway), George Livesey (Crewe) and Jack McCrindle (Prenton) as well as Frank Kennedy (Prestbury) and Ben Currie (Withington).

Sam Johnson (Astbury) and Nathan Newton (Upton) halved their match.

Cheshire then dominated the afternoon singles by 10-2 as Muir, Newton, Mann, Lamb, Lee, Livesey, McCrindle, Jonjo Ashbrook (Portal), Kennedy and Currie all posted wins to underline the rich vein of young talent in the county.

Meanwhile, Wilmslow Golf Club junior captain Katie Roberts tasted victory with Cheshire girls.

Although she lost her match to Heysham's Lucy Moss 2/1, Cheshire defeated Lancashire 4.5-3.5 in a thrilling contest at Lymm Golf Club.

Roberts got her hands on a trophy in the Cheshire Girls Championship at Prestbury Golf Club.

Heswall scratch golfer Lucy Jamieson, with a fine round of 76, took the top prize but Roberts secured the Liz Pook Handicap Trophy with a nett 78.
