AN eighth straight victory, coupled with rivals slipping up, has put Lindow clear at the Cheshire County Cricket League Division Two summit.

Having won by five wickets at Alvanley on Saturday, the Upcast Lane side are now 21 points clear of second-placed Brooklands, who were beaten by Romiley.

Lindow made an excellent start with the ball, with Alex Matthews (4-39) to the fore as the home side were reduced to 138-7 with overs running out.

It looked as if the visitors would only have a modest total to chase, but some late hitting got Alvanley to 193 all out.

The run chase was made harder as the first six overs were lost to rain, but Grant Waldron (44) and Rob Herriot (36) got things off to a positive start.

The game remained in the balance until Lindow skipper Ben Tyler smashed an unbeaten 51 from 42 deliveries to see his side home.

Lindow’s seconds have also gone top of their league after a comprehensive home win over their Alvanley counterparts, who were bowled out for just 97 thanks in no small part to 4-23 from Sam Walker.

The hosts chased down the total in just 20 overs, with Jamie Peel (35) and Andy Hume (34 not out) hitting the bulk of the runs.

The thirds are also in good form, with their win at Trafford MV being their fifth in a row.

A classy 54 from Dean Cox led Lindow to 161 before the bowlers blitzed their hosts for just 78, with Khalid Ahmed (5-39) and Paul Wilson (4-6).

n ALDERLEY Edge completed a crushing 160-run win over Oulton Park on Saturday.

Batting first, Edge had opener Calum Rowe to thank for getting their innings off to a great start with a knock of 91.

Valuable support came from Jonny Scurrah (49) and Daniel Lamb (43) as they reached an imposing total of 274-8.

Oulton Park never got close in reply as Lamb then shone with the ball, claiming excellent figures of 7-49 to skittle the visitors for just 114.

n WILMSLOW held on for a draw at Oakmere in Cheshire Cricket League Division Two.

The visitors fielded first and they struggled for breakthroughs. Elliot Rowe (3-21) was the pick of the bowlers, but Oakmere declared with the score on 197-7.

Rowe then starred with the bat with 72 not out, and that proved crucial as Wilmslow were forced to hold on.

They finished their overs on 152-8 to ensure a share of the spoils.

n STYAL won a low-scoring contest against Over Peover.

Despite being bowled out for just 118, Styal then skittled the visitors for 70 in reply to claim the spoils.
