ALFIE Jenkinson’s weekend at Cadwell Park went better than even he had expected.

In what was his first race at the track, the Knutsford teenager came away with a trio of victories from the North Gloucester Road Race Club meet.

It means he now leads the club’s Junior Supersport championship by 35 points, with the next meet at Pembrey next month.

In the more immediate short-term, however, it is back to Oulton Park – a track Jenkinson ranks as his favourite – for the Wirral 100 series this weekend.

“I really enjoyed the track – at first I wasn’t too keen but as soon as I got into the rhythm the track felt great,” the 16-year-old said.

“I exceeded my expectations of what my results would be as it was my first time at Cadwell Park, which is one of the countries harder tracks to lead and it’s not very forgiving if I was to make a mistake.

“I was heading there with hopes to finish all races and bring home the points but when I came home having won all three, it was a bit of a shock and to come away with a 35-point championship lead is a massive bonus

“I’m looking forward to riding my favourite track again and hopefully I can bring a few trophies home.”

Jenkinson finished first in his class in all three races and won the third of them overall – he sat in second following a good start before overtaking the race leader partway through and stretching clear.

That came after he had recovered from a slight mistake in the first race which meant he had to work his way through the field from fifth, but he got up to second on the last lap and just lost out on the win in the final sprint for the line.

The second race saw him record his fastest lap time of 1min 44.7secs, profiting when the race leader who was in his class crashed out of the race.
