COUNTRY music icon Charlie Landsborough will be visiting Warrington as part of his final tour.

The 76-year-old – best known for What Colour is the Wind – has announced that he plans to hang up his guitar and retire from touring to concentrate on writing and recording music.

But before that Charlie will embark on an extensive farewell tour in 2019 which reaches the Parr Hall on May 3.

Charlie said: “Now I thought that you, who have been so good to me, should be the first to know that I intend to hang up my guitar and retire next year.

“Hence, this next tour around England in spring will be my last.

“I will certainly miss you all but will never forget your great kindness and support and will always treasure the wonderful memories I have of the lovely times I have had with you.”

Charlie has won numerous awards over the decades including Best Song by a British Songwriter at the UK Country Awards for What Colour is the Wind, British Country Music Association’s Best Male Vocalist three years in a row and numerous best album accolades between 1994 and 2000.

He also has had two number ones singles in the Irish pop charts while many of his albums have topped the British country charts.

Becki Mundy, from Parr Hall, added: “The musician’s live shows transcend country music and encompass beautiful ballads, folk, blues, rock and roll, pop, gospel and anthems, which goes some way to explaining his popularity.”
