YEAR 11 students from Flixton Girls School and Wellacre Academy celebrated completing their GCSEs with a combined Prom at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles.

The event included a three course meal and disco, with carriages to escort the students home at midnight.

One student, Sian Hill, was accompanied by her 96 year old grandmother May Thomas, who was a student at Flixton Girls when it first opened in 1933.

May recalled her favourite teachers Miss Pye, Miss Ashworth and Miss Sweeney, and has fond memories of playing for the school netball team. May was taught shorthand and typing, and went on to become a wages clerk at Taylor Brothers in Trafford Park.

The school presented May with a bouquet of flowers as a thank you for her attendance, as well as a professional photograph of her with her daughter Carol and granddaughter Sian.

Carol Hill said ‘Thank you for this kind invitation and opportunity for my Mum to experience Sian’s prom. The memories and photographs will be treasured.’
