PRINCE Charles thanked staff, volunteers and donors for all their ‘marvellous’ efforts during a visit to Quarry Bank at Styal this morning.

The Royal visitor saw newly-opened areas which form part of a £9 million scheme at the National Trust property.

Prince Charles is the president of the trust, and visited the Worker's Cottage, the Upper Garden and Glasshouse to see how the restoration has been progressing since his last visit in 2010.

He also visited Styal Primary School and the Norcliffe Unitarian Chapel.

He told staff, volunteers and donors at a reception following the tour: “I’m so grateful to all of you as president of the National Trust for all the marvellous efforts you’ve made to keep these remarkable places going, and all the help and generous support of all the donors makes such a difference.”
