A SCHOOL is set to undergo some major changes.
Knutsford Academy has been granted planning permission to build an extension to its dining hall.
The extension will provide seating for hundreds of students, with work expected to begin soon.
Head teacher Karen Key said: “We are delighted to have received permission to proceed with the extension of the school dining facilities on our Bexton Road site.
“This will provide additional seating for more than 200 students.
“This will include a covered area outside where we intend to have picnic benching, so that students can eat outside at break time and lunch time.
“We are hoping to start the building work shortly, with completion due for the autumn term.”
A planning application was submitted to Cheshire East Council by architects Jay Ashall Partnership on behalf of The Learning Partnership, the multi-academy trust which oversees the school.
The application was for a single-storey extension to the existing school dining hall along with new storage spaces.
It was given the green light by the council’s planning officers on December 5.
Celebrating the news, a spokesperson for Jay Ashall Partnership said: “We are delighted to have obtained permission for a dining extension at Knutsford Academy.
“It provides a much-needed addition which will complement the recently upgraded kitchen.
“The design includes a glazed façade and projecting canopy over an external dining area."
