A TREAT was in store for excited children after they explored Knutsford’s heritage.

Year 1 pupils at Bexton Primary School have been studying well known landmarks in the town as part of their geography lessons.

A group of five and six-year-olds visited Tatton Park, St John’s Church, The Moor and the library.

Their adventure trail also included a walk round Gaskell Memorial Tower and the River Lily.

At the end of their day, the 50 youngsters discovered old-fashioned sweets inside the renowned Knutsford Olde Sweet Shoppe.

Owner Julia Chard said: “I chatted to them and they loved talking about all the different sweets we had.

“It was a lovely morning and I was so pleased to be part of it.

“They also wrote a leaflet about the sweet shop for their English lesson.

“At the end of the day they all received a little sweet bag as a reward for their hard work.”

Bexton teacher Rebecca Dickinson said: “The children loved looking at all the traditional sweets and were able to each take a special bag of pick and mix sweet home.

“They also used this real life experience to inspire some creative writing and create a non-fiction leaflet all about Knutsford Olde Sweete Shoppe in their English lessons.”
