A WILMSLOW school is celebrating after being hailed ‘outstanding’ in an Ofsted inspection.

Handforth Grange Primary School received the top rating in all five key judgement areas, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years inspectors.

Inspectors described pupils’ behaviour as ‘impeccable’ and their attitudes to learning as ‘exemplary’.

In a report, inspectors said: “Handforth Grange is an exciting place to learn.

“Pupils behave impeccably. They show immense respect and consideration for others.

“Relationships between pupils and staff are the bedrock of the school’s success.”

Inspectors spent two days at the Ullswater Road school, which has 349 pupils aged three to 11.

The scrupulous examination including speaking to staff, trustees and the local authority.

Pupils were asked about their experiences at school and teachers were invited to talk about their workload and wellbeing.

Inspectors observed lessons, looked at samples of pupils’ work and watched children studying and at play.

Parents had a chance to express their views in person and in a survey.

The school was commended for providing an array of ‘exciting and diverse opportunities’ for pupils.

Staff were praised for their dedication and commitment.

Inspectors said: “Staff are united by a common desire to do their best for each and every pupil.

“The school has introduced an ambitious and inspiring curriculum in all subjects.”

Books play a pivotal role in children’s learning.

Inspectors said: “Reading is at the heart of the school’s work.

“Staff promote reading relentlessly.

“Pupils love reading and spoke with passion about their favourite books, authors and genres.

“Staff are experts at teaching early reading.

“Their teaching enables almost all pupils to become technically proficient readers.”

Children were given top marks for their determination and tenacity.

Inspectors said: “Pupils’ attitudes to learning are exemplary.

“They work hard and persevere.

“Pupils follow routines impeccably. Their attendance is excellent."

Headteacher Mrs Andrea Booth said: "Receiving an 'outstanding' rating from Ofsted is a testament to the dedication and collaborative spirit of our exceptional staff, parents, pupils and the entire school community.

“Our commitment to providing an inspiring and inclusive learning environment has been recognised by Ofsted.

“Our journey is one of continuous improvement and we look forward to further building on this success to further enhance the educational experience for our children.”

This was the first Ofsted inspection since the school joined the Frank Field Education Trust to become an academy.
