A GIFTED choir is celebrating after staging one of their ‘best ever performances’.

Tatton Singers performed Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 at St John’s Church in Knutsford last month.

This is an incredibly difficult piece.

John Powell, the choir’s musical director, said: “Tatton Singers are on a real high at the moment.

“They gave a superlative performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers, a rare venture for any choral society and certainly a first for Knutsford.

“With top quality instrumentalists and six very fine soloists, the choir rose to the occasion and thrilled the capacity audience with one of their very best performances.”

Now, they are inviting people to come along and sing with them.

The choir is hosting a singing day from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday, May 18 in St John’s Church.

John said: “We work for a day on music which is straightforward to learn so that we reach performance standard by mid-afternoon.

“It’s always a very sociable occasion, excellent cake, relaxed and fun for all.”

The music is a short choral work by Mendelssohn, known to many for his great oratorio Elijah.

“The work entitled ‘As The Hart Pants’, is an exciting piece, lively singing, quick learning, a first class soprano soloist.

“Altogether a stimulating and very satisfying musical experience for all.”

Several other motets will also be included.
