Wilmslow U3A by Anne Grace
Judy Popley gave a talk entitled “My Life at Granada” to Wilmslow U3A recently. Judy’s presentation included the history of Granada Television, her working career there punctuated with one or two snippets of gossip. It was a fascinating insight into the workings of a television studio together with information about some of the problems connected with filming, both on set and outside locations.
Judy was involved with many productions including Brideshead Revisited, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Jewel in the Crown, Coronation Street and many more. It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon and enjoyed by all.
Two coaches of members visited Bodnant Gardens in North Wales recently. The weather was fair and dry and the azaleas and gardens looked magnificent although, unfortunately, the laburnum arch was not yet in full bloom.
Forthcoming outings include Samlesbury Hall and Gardens near Preston on June 10 and “Ghost Train” at the Royal Exchange theatre on June 16.
Wilmslow U3A meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm in the United Reform Church Hall. The next meeting will be on June 24, with a talk by guest speaker Peter Sykes entitled “DIY Surgery with Audience Participation”.
