President Virginia Williamson welcomed members and three guests to the recent meeting of Plumley WI. Since the last meeting members have visited the Harrogate WI Show; held an afternoon tea party which raised nearly £200; held a coffee morning which raised £166 and members also enjoyed visits to the Bishop of Chester’s home and Gawsworth Hall.

Forthcoming events include the craft group meeting on September 23; darts team practice on September 25 and a walk at Marbury with lunch on September 24.

Guest speaker for the month was archaeologist, Stephen Dean, who gave a fascinating talk on the Staffordshire Hoard. Members enjoyed learning more about the excavation and care of the finds, and found the theories about how the Hoard came to be deposited particularly interesting.

The competition was won by Virginia Williamson, with Sylvia Hankinson runner-up. The bloom competition was won by Betty Jones, with Lillian Friar in second place.

The next meeting on Monday, October 5, will be a Mini Show.
