AS temperatures soared to over 30 degrees, The Ryleys’ girls and boys kept cool as they competed in the school’s inter-house swimming gala held in the school’s outdoor swimming pool last Wednesday.

All children from years 5, 6, 7, and 8 entered the annual swimming gala, competing in 24 different races for their school houses, Elstob, Waterhouse, Hoyle and Wilson. The races included freestyle, medley, cannon relay and butterfly.

The parents of the school watched the event, soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying refreshments by the pool to keep them cool.

The Victor Ludorum for the Senior Boys was awarded to Gabriel Pinto, while the Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Claudia Schickel.

The Year 6 Victrix Ludorum was awareded to George Halfpenney and the Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Lily Eckersley.

Year 5 Victrix Ludorum was awarded to Mya Jagielka and the Victor Ludorum was awarded to Kitt O’Neil.

Megan Landing was awarded the Most Improved Swimmer over the year and over all, the House that won was Hoyle House.

Headteacher at the Alderley Edge school Claire Hamilton, said: “The annual swimming gala is a huge event in The Ryleys calendar and one that we all look forward to. We have some very strong swimmers here at the school, however in this competition all swimmers of all abilities are able to compete at their own levels and it’s a great chance for every child to experience and enter into a swimming competition.”

The Ryleys Swimming Pool is a fantastic facility within the school, heated at 32 degrees, children take part in swimming lessons from the age of two through to Year eight currently. Lessons are taught by a Level 3 instructor who also teachers at David Lloyd, Cheadle Hulme.
